BARGYLIA
2021
Bodrum is an important destination for summer holidays and entertainment in Turkey and the rest of the world. Recently, the idea of living in this region not only in the summer season but throughout the year has become more popular. However, there are some difficulties due to the fact that the city has a structuring approach that is only indexed to the summer season.
The Bargylia project is located in the northern part of the city, close to the airport. The project Bargylia takes its name from an old city established in ancient times in the region.
In the first phase of the project, there are approximately 1 million square meters of planned area and 950 residences. The most important part of the project is the design of the areas that are considered for the entertainment, shopping, and service needs of the project, which consists of single residences. Because the modern city, which has developed among the ruins of ancient and medieval cities, has a tendency to form heaps that cannot provide these qualities and have no integrity, we worked on a different approach for this specific area.
In the Bargylia project, building groups were created with modern materials and techniques based on the building, piazzas, and opening qualities of ancient and medieval cities. While applying the qualities of ancient cities and settlements, especially in the subjects of floor coverings, wall plasters, and stone coverings, modern scales and techniques were applied for the openings, load-bearing systems, and heights in the buildings. Details and materials are selected and prototype studies are continuing in order to realize the hybrid that emerged as a result of this approach.
